Interview mit Ton Agram : 2026.

Radio Body Music : Ich habe bereits vorab das neue Ton Agram Album "Schanzenfest" hören können und finde es etwas anders als die vorherigen Alben, da du neben dem in Rhythmik und Struktur gebrachten Krach auch auf meißt verzerrte Schlaginstrumente sowie verschiedene wuchtige Toms einsetzt, was das ganze Album etwas Ritual lastig macht.
Ton Agram : Das stimmt, du hast das richtig bemerkt.
Radio Body Music : Wie kam es dazu?
Ton Agram : Ich nehme grundsätzlich nur bestimmte Musikrichtungen auf, wenn ich auch richtig Bock darauf habe. Nachdem ich den Krach in eine loopfähige Form gebracht hatte, habe ich einfach mal wuchtige Toms usw. eingefügt und das Ergebnis hört man auf dem Album. Mir hat das gleich selber sehr gut gefallen und so entstand dann auch ein Lied im ähnlichen Style und der rituelle Aspekt in den Stücken entwickelte sich von Lied zu Lied.
Radio Body Music : Da du ja nichts mit deiner Stimme machst, nutzt du ja ausschließlich Sprachsamples. Bist du da nicht etwas in der eigenen Entwicklung bezüglich der Inhalte der Songs gehindert?
Ton Agram : Nein, die Welt ist voller Themen aus denen man Sprachsamples nutzen kann, die einzige Schwierigkeit ist eher reine Sprachsamples ohne Musik im Hintergrund zu finden.
Radio Body Music : Hast du zuerst die Sprachsamples und machst die Musik dazu oder machst du erst die Muik und suchst dann die entsprechenden Sprachsamples zu den Themen, die du im Kopf hast?
Ton Agram : Ich habe ein großes Archiv mit Sprachsamples, die alle darauf warten dass sie mal in einem Lied verwendet werden. Beim aktuellen Album habe ich erstmal die Musik gemacht und nachträglich die Sprachsamples eingefügt und das Lied dann dementsprechend umgebaut, damit Sprachsamples und Musik zusammenpassen.
Radio Body Music : Du hast dich gegen eine CD entschieden, warum?
Ton Agram : Erstmal schon : es hat einfach einen wirtschaftlichen Grund. Die dunkle Szene ist eh schon klein, aber solche Musik ist innerhalb dieser Szene selbst ein Nischenprodukt. Ein weiterer Grund ist, dass eine CD keine Lauflänge bietet, die ich für dieses Album bräuchte. Es ist im Ganzen länger als die 78 Minuten, die auf eine CD passen. Das Album als 2CD rauszubringen macht auch keinen Sinn, denn die zweite CD wäre niemals voll geworden und vielleicht mit 2-3 Liedern bestückt sein. Wenn die Download-Zahlen eine CD sinnvoll machen würde, dann bin ich aber auch offen dafür das Album auf CD herauszubringen.
Radio Body Music : Neben Download bei Bandcamp und etlichen Download-Portalen möchtest du das Album als MC und als 12"LP in Direct-Cut-Vinyl anbieten. Warum auf MC und warum als Direct-Cut-Vinyl?
Ton Agram : MCs gehen immer. Ich mag MCs. Direct-Cut-Vinyl ist zwar extrem teuer in der Herstellung, da sowohl das Vinyl einzeln geschnitten und das Cover einzeln gedruckt wird. Das kostet viel Geld, zuzüglich kommen die GEMA Kosten auf den Netto-Herstellungspreis für das Direct-Cut-Vinyl mit Cover. Der Vorteil für mich ist dass ich nicht hunderte von Vinyls daheim stehen habe, die ich an den Kunden bringen muss und das Ganze auch noch versenden muss. Das Direct-Cut-Vinyl wird vom Hersteller an den Kunden versandt und geht nicht erst an mich um es dann weiter an den Kunden zu versenden. Ich finden den Umstand am Direct-Cut-Vinyl sowieso ganz prima, dass sich der Kunde aus verschiedenen Vinyl-Farben seine Wunschfarbe aussuchen kann.
Radio Body Music : Kommen wir zurück zur Musik : wie kamst du darauf das Stück "Schanzenfest" zu machen?
Ton Agram : Irgendwie ist die Thematik "Drachenlord" vollkommen an mir vorbeigegangen. Vermutlich war ich einfach zu alt für diese Vorgänge um den Drachenlord. Letztens hatte mir Youtube per Zufallswiedergabe einfach ein Video eingeblendet, welches etwa "Die Story vom Drachenlord" hieß. Ich habe es mir dann gegeben und dann das Lied dazu gemacht.
Radio Body Music : Ich hatte die Story vor mehr als 10 Jahren mitbekommen und sehe auch jetzt dass sich die Stimmung dem Drachenlord gegenüber vollkommen gedreht hat. Die Tik-Tok-Jugend feiert ihn mit den Rainer Winkler Memes.
Ton Agram : Ja, genau darum geht es in dem Song "Schanzenfest", da treffen sich 4000 vornehmlich Jugendliche um den Drachenlord zu feiern, zum Ärger der Hater des Drachengames.
Radio Body Music : Es gibt ja bereits von Ton Agram ein Nebenprojekt namens Bulldozer. Wo sind die Unterschiede zwischen Ton Agram und Bulldozer?
Ton Agram : Bulldozer ist noch schräger und von den Sounds her noch mehr Noise als Ton Agram, welches ja rhythmischer Industrial, bzw. Rhythm N´ Noise von der Musikrichtung her ist.
Radio Body Music : Gibt es Pläne mit weiteren Veröffentlichungen von Bulldozer und Ton Agram?
Ton Agram : Das erste Bulldozer Album ist ja erst vor ca. 3 Wochen bei Bandcamp veröffentlicht worden. Das ist ja alles noch frisch und reicht erstmal an Veröffentlichungen zusammen mit dem Ton Agram Album "Schanzenfest", es sei denn ich bekomme Laune auf neue Sounds und setze mich in den nächsten Wochen und Monaten an neues Material, aber das ist erstmal noch nicht geplant.
Radio Body Music : Welches Musikprogramm nutzt du und kommt auch Hardware zum Einsatz?
Ton Agram : Nachdem mir mein altes Musikprogramm mit dem dazugehörigen Rechner den Geist aufgegeben hat bei einem Festplattencrash, musste ich mich neu orientieren und bin dann den Rat von Claus Larsen von Leaether Strip gefolgt und habe mir das gleiche Programm gekauft was er selbst nutzt : FL Studio. Ja, ich nutze auch Hardware. Beim aktuellen Album sind z.B. viele krachige Sounds mit dem kleinen Stylophone GENX-1 gemacht worden und natürlich mit etlicher anderer Hardware.
Radio Body Music : Das ist ja ein analoger Synth, der muss doch noch mit dem Programm aufgenommen werden. Das ist ja noch "handarbeit" , die sich viele gar nicht mehr machen.
Ton Agram : Ich liebe sowas.

Radio Body Music : In Kürze erscheint dein viertes Album “Rhythm And Noise”. Die ersten drei Alben erschienen ja zusammen. Wie kam das und wie kam es zu deinem Projekt Ton Agram?
Ton Agram : Angefangen hat alles im Juni 2011 als ich das erste Lied “Murderer Killed By Murder” und das zweite Lied “Terrorist Acts” schuf, diese dann aber für viele Jahre im Archiv verschwanden, da ich erst für weitere Lieder Sprachsamples suchen musste. Es war gleich klar dass wenn ich da mal weitermache es ausschließlich ein Sprachsample basiertes Projekt sein wird. Es dauerte viele Jahre, bis ich alle Sprachsamples für die drei Alben “Industrial Music For Rhythmic People”, “By The Grace Of God And The Deeds Of Heroes” und “Radio Zagreb” zusammen hatte und auch diverse Sounds, die ich immer mal wieder kreierte wanderten ebenfalls ins Archiv und lauerten darauf eingesetzt zu werden.
Radio Body Music : Der Name “Ton Agram” war da noch nicht für das Projekt ausgesucht? Ich habe gesehen dass du auf dem “Slava Ukraini” Sampler unter dem Namen “Grey Area” einige Lieder veröffentlicht hast. Die kam ja 2022 raus?
Ton Agram : Ich hatte schon die Musik für alle drei Alben kreiert und erzählte es einem Bekannten. Irgendwie ergab es sich dann dass er daran interessiert war, dass er als Sänger für das gemeinsame Projekt “Grey Area” zu fungieren. Texte wurden seinerseits geschrieben, erste Proben des Gesanges passten auch, doch dann machten ihm die Nachbarn einen Strich durch die Rechnung. Banal gesagt konnte er einfach nicht mehr in einem Mehrfamilienhaus den Gesang bzw. Geschrei weiter aufnehmen. Alternativen standen leider nicht zur Verfügung, so dass der gemeinsame Plan wieder eingestampft wurde und ich die bereits zu Hauf angesammelten Sprachsamples in die Instrumentalstücke einarbeitete sowie noch ein paar fehlende Stücke fertigstellte um eben diese drei Alben fertigzustellen. Ich bin dann auch zu dem ursprünglich geplanten Solo-Namen “Ton Agram” zurückgekehrt. Zwischenzeitlich haben wir dann mit ich glaube drei Stücken an dem Sampler unter dem gemeinsamen Namen teilgenommen, da zu dem Zeitpunkt noch kein Stress mit dem Nachbarn bei ihm war. So kam es dass die ersten drei Ton Agram Stücke, die je veröffentlicht wurden unter dem Namen “Grey Area” veröffentlicht wurden.
Radio Body Music : Du hast die ersten drei Ton Agram Alben alleine auf CD / Download und auch als 7” und 12”LP im Direct-Cut-Vinyl veröffentlicht. Warum nicht unter einem Label und was ist das Dirct-Cut-Vinyl?
Ton Agram : Ich hatte mal locker bei Cold Spring Records in England angefragt, aber die hatten einen Stopp für neue Bands und ich habe dann gar keine Demos dahin geschickt. Ein anderes Label, welches eigentlich genau richtig für solche Sounds wäre hat auf meine Frage, wohin ich Demos schicken dürfte, nie geantwortet. Im Endeffekt braucht man in der heutigen Zeit kein Label, was einen ausnimmt. Wenn man sich nur die Download-Vergütung anschaut : mit welchem Recht speist ein Label einen mit 15% des Download-Umsatzes ab und verdient 85% für ein einmaliges Hochladen des Albums bei Download-Anbietern. Das dauert 20 Minuten und man selbst hat monatelange Arbeit mit der Musik gehabt oder wie in meinem Fall 12 Jahre. Nein! Das hätte ich nie eingesehen. Für eine CD sind auch 15% Vergütung üblich, aber auch das finde ich zu wenig. Ich habe mich dann entschlossen, die ersten drei Alben selbst rauszubringen.
Das Direct-Cut-Vinyl ist eine schöne Möglichkeit Vinyl anzubieten, ohne sich 300 oder 500 Vinyls in die Wohnung zu stellen. Es ist zwar deutlich teurer als eine gepresste Vinyl und auch der Druck des Covers ist sehr teuer, doch Kleinauflagen in verschiedenen Vinylfarben machen es dann wieder interessant und es wird auch gut angenommen!
Radio Body Music : Du sagtest mir im Vorgespräch, dass du das vierte Album nur gemacht hast, weil der Verkauf von CDs und Download in den Download Stores gut ist.
Ton Agram : Ja. Das vierte Album hätte ich zwar so oder so gemacht, aber dann nicht für die Öffentlichkeit, sondern für mich und ggf. dann für ein paar ausgesuchte Leute, die auf so Sounds stehen. Aber da der Verkauf zufriedenstellend ist, habe ich mich entschieden es der Allgemeinheit zugänglich zu machen. Auch das Vinyl geht gut. Ich überlege auch die Herstellung von MCs. Mal sehen .... .
Radio Body Music : Ja, wir sprachen bereits über MCs. Es hab in den frühen 2000er Jahren ein Martial-Industrial Projekt namens “Thorn Agram”, hattest du damit etwas zu tun?
Ton Agram : Erstaunlich dass dieses Projekt doch so viele kennen, aber tatsächlich habe ich da nichts mit zu tun. Phonetisch klingt es sehr ähnlich, doch soweit mir bekannt ist ist Thorn eine Stadt in Polen. ”Agram” ist gleich : die deutsche Bezeichnung für die kroatische Stadt Zagreb. Mehr Gleichheit gibt es nicht : die machten Martial-Industrial, ich Rhythmic Industrial/Oldschool Industrial/Rhythm N´ Noise.
Radio Body Music : Welche musikalischen Vorbilder hast du bei Ton Agram?
Ton Agram : Ich wurde 1988 16 Jahre alt und kam sehr bald mit dem legendären “Electronic Body Music” Sampler in Berührung und war gleich von dieser Musik bis heute fasziniert. Ich kam auch vorher schon aus der Elektronik : angefangen von elektronischer NDW bis zum Synth-Pop, aber das war mir alles zu brav. EBM war was anderes. Ich interessierte mich dann natürlich auch für ähnliche elektronische Musik und kam bald auch zu S.P.K., dem legendären Grey Area Label von Daniel Miller. So war ich dann auch zum 80er Industrial gekommen, der mich aber nur teilweise überzeugte. Ich bin eher der Freund rhythmischer Musik und war dann Anfang der 90er begeistert von P.A.L., Esplendor Geometrico usw. Ich fand auch den Einsatz von Sprachsamples viel interessanter als mit Gesang, besonders wenn Sprachsamples aus verschiedenen Ursprüngen zusammen einen vollkommen neuen Kontext erzeugen.
Ich denke dass man bei mir irgendwo diesen rhythmischen 90er Jahre Industrial hören kann.
Radio Body Music : Was hörst du sonst gerne an Industrial Bands?
Ton Agram : Ich höre sehr gerne Asche, Blac Kolor, Dive, ESA, Haus Arafna, Hypnoskull, Orphx, Proyecto Mirage, Simon Schall oder Winterkälte. Am Liebsten im Moment aber SAT Stoicizmo.
Radio Body Music : Zurück zu deinem aktuellen Album “Rhythm n´Noise” : gibt es einen roten Faden in deiner Musik?
Ton Agram : Ja, definitiv! Es ist Geschichte. Spielt du auf dem Synth nur einen Ton ist er nach dem Verklingen in dem Moment schon Geschichte. Deswegen benutze ich allerhand Sprachsamples aus allen Zeiten und aus allen möglichen Themengebieten.

Ton Agram : Ja, zwei. “Tora, Tora, Tora” und “Stand Up To Evil”. Ber das kann in ein paar Tagen wieder ganz anders aussehen.
Radio Body Music : Was kannst du uns über die Produktion deiner Lieder und Alben verraten?
Ton Agram : Ich benutze keine VSTs für Ton Agram, da ich Produktionen heutzutage viel zu glattgebügelt finde. Ich brauche auch kein Wettrennen um die höchsten Bitraten. Mir reichen 24 Bit für die Downloads. Ich bin eher fasziniert von Produktionen wie z.B. von den beiden zwei Artware Veröffentlichungen von SAT Stoicizmo, die sich in der kroatischen Provinz Mitte der 80er Jahre irgendeine alte Lagerhalle gemietet haben um dort live ihre Stücke einzuspielen und die Qualität der Aufnahmen vor 40 Jahren so hoch waren, wie es manche Bands bis heute nicht in ihren Heimstudios produzieren können. Ich sammele eher über Jahre wie mit den Sprachsamples bereits beschrieben .wav, sei es als One-Shots oder über eine gewisse Länge von Takten. Das dauert viele Jahre, doch wenn dann der richtige Zeitpunkt kommt und ich wieder mal Lust habe ein neues Ton Agram Album aufzunehmen, dann kann ich auf ein großes Archiv zurückgreifen. Die dortigen .wav übernehme ich in ein Musikprogramm, welches aber eher nur zum Arrangieren und zum Abmischen/Mastern benutzt wird.
Radio Body Music : Hast du dir denn mal Gedanken über Konzerte gemacht?
Ton Agram : Klar, aber leider könnten die Besucher von mir enttäuscht sein. Ich habe manchmal so starke Rückenschmerzen, dass ich mich sofort hinsetzen muss. Das zeiht mir bis in den Lendenbereich, da meine Bandscheiben an drei Stellen im Eimer sind und ich versteife fast vollkommen. So ist die Gefahr ziemlich groß dass es ausgerechnet am Konzerttag der Fall ist. Was soll ich den Konzertbesuchern und dem Veranstalter dann sagen?
Hätte ich noch einen Drummer und ggf. noch weitere Mitstreiter auf der Bühne, dann könnte man da vielleicht doch etwas realisieren, aber so erstmal auf keinen Fall, auch wenn schon Anfragen waren und ich im Prinzip schon Bock dazu hätte.
